Although B&D has worked on a variety of projects in its 25-year history, CG Schmidt Construction provided the opportunity of a lifetime to work on this world-class art museum. It is, simply, a masterpiece.
World-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava created the vision, and B&D was privileged to be part of the team that made his dream a reality.
This, of course, was not your run of the mill project. With intense attention to detail, B&D adhered to the strictest of architectural demands. In keeping with the clean lines and blended features, all details from fasteners to doors to speaker covers were concealed to be completely unobtrusive to the design.
Hardware details were worked out in the field with the project’s supplier to give full compliance to Calatrava’s vision. The “rack of ribs,” which was a radius wall pocket door disguising the overhead coiling door, was a challenge we approached with a scratch of the head, but the result is near perfection. Casework, cabinets, and cherry panels all blended under the common motto, “measure twice, cut once.” In addition, B&D installed the auditorium seats in the museum’s elegant theatre space.
Foreman Doug Hebert and Project Manager Jim Waarvik agreed, “The largest challenge of this project was turning the conceptuals into tangibles. That was the real trick.”
Although a modest contribution to this crown jewel on the shores of “Lake Michi Gami,” B&D is so proud it will always have its stamp of excellence.
