Contracted by: J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. for the Milwaukee Public Library System
Location: 3401 W. Oklahoma Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53215
Contract Issued: 2005
Completed: 2007
B&D will modified the existing single glazing to accept 1” energy savings glass and also replaced any of the existing Cypress wood that has deteriorated over time by milling new cypress wood to match the existing profiles.
The nearly 15,000-square-foot structure was built in 1963 and at some point was retro-fit with an additional piece of glass to obtain some energy savings. The new 1” energy efficient glass will start paying for itself immediately by keeping today’s rising heating and cooling costs in check. By restoring the old Cypress wood, the city has also been able to not only maintain the original architecture of the building, but also save additional trees from being cut down.
